✅ Why Dust Baths Matter

Chinchillas don’t bathe in water — their dense fur traps moisture and can cause skin issues.
Dust baths help:

✔ Remove excess oils
✔ Keep fur fluffy & clean
✔ Reduce matting
✔ Support skin health
✔ Make them feel AMAZING

Most chins love them — some even do backflips!

✅ How Often Should They Bathe?
    •    2–4 times per week for most chinchillas
    •    More often in hot or humid weather
    •    Skip baths if fur is dry or flaky (too much dust can irritate)

✅ Our Favorite Dust Options

Chinchilla-safe dust should be:
✔ 100% volcanic pumice
✔ Fine, soft texture
✔ No talc

✅ Bath Houses / Containers

Chinchillas kick like tiny tornadoes — so a sturdy bath house helps contain dust.

✔ Heavy enough not to tip

✅ Bathing Tips
    •    Use dust in a container, not loose in the cage
    •    Remove after 10–15 minutes
    •    Replace dust when it looks clumpy or dirty
    •    Never reuse dust between sick & healthy animals
    •    If eyes get irritated, give a short break

✅ Fun Add-Ons

✔ Ceramic bowls for storage
✔ Lid containers to keep dust clean
✔ Travel dust bath for shows or vet trips
✔ Pumice stones for extra grooming enrichment

✅ Common Mistakes To Avoid

🚫 No “play sand”
🚫 No scented dusts
🚫 No talc
🚫 No dust marked for hamsters/rabbits unless confirmed pumice-based

✅ Cutest Part

Most chins LOVE bath time.
Some roll.
Some bounce.
Some… dive face-first like tiny acrobats.

(Pippin does all three.)
