✅ Mochi

Meet Mochi — Our Sweet, Slightly Dramatic Snack Enthusiast
Formerly “Kirby,” now rebranded to something sweeter. 4–5 years old • scritch-loving • attention-seeker • aspiring snack critic.

I saw this little black chinchilla with the softest eyes, half a tail, and the sweetest spirit…
and suddenly he was home.

Age: 4–5 years old
Color: Black Velvet — a deep charcoal coat with a bright white belly and the softest velvety finish, and eyelashes that should honestly be illegal.
Birthday: April 11, 2021 — National Pet Day (because fate clearly wanted him to be loved).
Gotcha Day: November 4, 2025

Mochi’s Story

Mochi’s story didn’t begin easy.

His original owner passed away, and a teenage daughter tried her best to care for him.
When her father remarried, the stepmom didn’t want Mochi in the house — so he was surrendered to rescue.

He arrived at Wasatch Wanderers with:
    •    Bald spots on both hips from fur chewing
    •    No safe toys to chew
    •    And part of his tail missing after being attacked by the family dog

Most animals would shut down after that.
Mochi didn’t.

With time, love, enrichment, and safe chews, his foster worked wonders — and Mochi blossomed. The anxious, under-stimulated boy became sweet, trusting, and desperate for cheek rubs.

By the time he came home to us, his heart was already wide open — and so was ours.

Personality

Mochi is bold, loving, talkative, and convinced he should be involved in every single thing we do.

His communication skills are unreal:
    •    Wiggle fingers → he knows he’ll be picked up
    •    “Can I pet you?” → he lowers his ears to say yes
    •    Treat container sounds → instant teleportation

He loves cheek rubs, loves enrichment time, and loves being part of the action.
He does not believe in being ignored — and honestly, we don’t want to.

Favorite Treats

Goji berries
Oat groats
Herbal sprinkles
And anything Pippin “accidentally” drops

Fun Fact

If you sit on the floor, Mochi will climb you like Mount Everest, sit on your shoulder, and supervise everything you’re doing.

He will also paw at you if you stop petting him too soon.

What Mochi Means to Us

Mochi is proof that rescue animals aren’t “broken.”
They’re survivors — full of heart, trust, intelligence, and love.

He makes us laugh every day.
He healed, he thrived, and he took our world from quiet to joyful.

Mochi didn’t just join our family —
he completed it.

💛 Squeaks, Snacks & Cheek Rubs,
Mochi & Heather
